Chinese Lunar New Year/Pottery Painting/Ect

What a couple days of busy, busy, busy.

Saturday we went to the Cobb Civic Center to the Lunar New Years celebration and dinner with Doug, Lisa and Briana. While we were there, we ran into Brent, Cindy and Claire, John, Ann and Katie, Joan and her family. It kind of felt like a mini potluck! We watched the girls dancing to the performers and then settled into a buffet style meal, serving, none other than Chinese food. We left right after lunch so we could hurry home to get our nap in. And, oh, what a nap it was. Daddy, Chani, Bindi and I ALL napped.

Then, the next day, I met with the girls,Lisa, Lisa and Trixie for a fun afternoon of fabulous Mexican dishes and then, the most fun part of the day, painting pottery. Everyone had awesome pieces of art. I can't wait to get them fired and picked up next week. I'm having so much fun doing this. So anytime anyone wants to go again, just let me know. I'll go again!

Monday came and we did the laundry. Boy can this girl get things dirty. So much to constantly do. But she is soooo worth it. I really don't mind doing it at all as long as I can get a smile or "mama" out of it.

Today we met the girls, Lisa & Briana, Randi & Jack and Ann & Katie for lunch. After Mexican again, we all met back at my place for a little play date. They all didn't stay too long as it was getting late and naps were soon to follow. Chani went down right away. Now, if she'll give me a couple hours, that would be nice.

For Chani's birthday, Grandma and Grandpa sent her a swing set. It arrived late last night so Daddy is out there now, working on assembling it. This thing will be HUGE. I can't wait to be able to swing her. I think we'll need to get an infant swing so she can safely swing on it until she is older. I can't believe that I'll have a swing set in my back yard.

Tomorrow we're off to music class.

Thursday we have our one month post placement. Don't ask me why our agency has us do this because no one else that I'm aware of has to but we do and that is scheduled. I have no idea what it is going to cost.

Another thing we finally have done is hire a maid!! Yippee!!! - Her first day will be on Thursday. I hope she does great work because I'm looking for a long term commitment and someone I can totally trust to do a good job. I just can't do all the housework and keep Chani occupied. It will be such a relief knowing that those tasks will be done.

Our first boo-boo

We had our first boo-boo during one of our play dates the other day with Rachel and Amber. Chani isn't so stable on her feet yet but LOVES to be on them did a face plant right into the back of Amber's head. She screamed and cried and not the ooops, I hit my head cry but really let me know that it hurt. Amber wasn't phased at all and just looked back at her. This is what it did to my baby's face.

I've decided that missing the morning naps just is not a good thing. When she gets in an hour in the morning, she naps so much better in the afternoon which in turn makes for a great afternoon. Happiness is all around then. If she misses her nap, she isn't so pleasant. So, I've eliminated most morning activities and try to stay home during that time. There are a couple exceptions though and one is our music class. I don't know if she really enjoys it or not but she does like the music when I play it at home so we'll keep that one.

She received this at her baby shower and she loves it. It has a musical foot that will play a very short tropical type of music. She starts swinging back and forth when I play it and when the music stops, she does too. Then, I press it again and she starts again. It is so cute.

She also loves her stacking cups still. I think they are one of her favorite toys. I also spent around $3 for a ball at Wal-mart and that is one of her favorites as well. She loves things that are small and hard. She hasn't taken too well to stuffed animals yet. I keep working with her with them. She is curious about them but then quickly tosses them aside.

I want to get her a few more musical type toys like this. These are the kind of musical instruments that she uses at her class.

Today we are going with Lisa, Doug and Briana to the FCC Lunar New Year Celebration. We'll have to miss her nap for this but she gets to dress up in one of her Chinese dresses that we bought while we were in China. I'm really looking forward to seeing the girls in their outfits! - Camera batteries charged - check!

Here are a few pictures in our everyday life.

Painting, More snow and Sorrow

We had another day of snow. Two in one year, wow! There is still a tiny bit of snow on the ground in patches but with the way the town closes down, you would think we're in a blizzard. I still went out and had lunch with Debbie and her family. We then went to the pottery place and painted. I did a tile with Chani's footprints, her name and date. I also did a turtle box. I can't wait to see it fired. It looked pretty cute when I left so I hope it turns out great. Debbie did a birthday plate like the one I broke last time. That's my project for next Sunday. I doubt if it will be as cute but I'm gonna try.

Upon arrival home, I learned of the devastating news of one of our local waiting families, Jason and Stephanie. In just 14 days, they were to adopt their son, Samuel from Ethiopia when they received the news that he had passed away. My heart is just breaking for them. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with them.

One Month Ago Today

One month ago today, Chani became a US citizen. It was a day that I'll never forget. I almost cried when the customs guy said, "Welcome to our newest citizen. Merry Christmas."

We're still getting to know each other and things are going really well. She is wanting to stand and, probably before her birthday in three weeks, will be walking around. She has had her first table only meal, yesterday which consisted of 1/2 Boca Burger, 1/2 slice of cheese and some broccoli. She seemed to enjoy it all. She doesn't like the stage 3 baby food but still likes the stage 2. Guess we'll be skipping over the stage 3 and going right to table food. I tried green beans but those were a no go for now.

A couple of weeks ago, I found a memorial stone for my Dad's tree. Back in Sept, 06, we planted a tree on the one year anniversary of his death. I had been looking for a stone and even called a place and worked out a deal for them to set up a rough draft so I could see it. They failed to follow through with it but so did I and nothing ever came of it. I have been looking ever since and happened upon one in a catalog the other day and found one that I liked and ordered it. I didn't realize the timing of it all but it arrived in the mail yesterday. This morning, I took it out back and placed it by the tree. It was then that I realized the significance of today. It is his birthday.

Today it is snowing but we're heading out for lunch and going to do a pottery painting with Debbie and Li Li. They can't make it next week when the group of us are going so we set up a small one with just them. Matt is going with us and will take Chani home if she doesn't do well. I'm not sure what I'll paint but I'll be sure to post about it.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
