November is here!!

Just read that November 1st made the cutoff for the May referrals! It's so nice to see November finally in there. We have the entire month to get through but it seems like it's just a step closer for us. Yippee!!

Now, today also marks our 17th month wait. How many will we really have to wait? Will we hit 20?

Congratulations to all those who will receive their referrals today!

Spring Cleaning the Kitchen

THIS is what I have been doing for three days now. Well, all except for holding the baby which I'm still waiting on. For three days this week, I have been cleaning the kitchen. Just the kitchen. I can't believe that it's taking me so long to do just one room. I am cleaning from top to bottom but it's taking forever. I don't think it's has ever been so clean. I'm still working on it and will probably spend at least two days next week on it.

Tuesday, I went to lunch with Lisa and Amy. I finally had the chance to meet Amy, Lisa's sister. She was so much like Lisa and I had so much fun meeting her. We had lunch at Beef O'Brady's. I was bad and had wings while both of them ordered salad. We then went to a little house turned gift shop nearby called Traditions. It was a really cool place. One that I have wanted to go in but never took the time to do so. Boy, I really have been missing out. They had tons of great things in there and I ended up leaving with a few of them. It was a great day.

Then, on Wednesday, I went to visit a new friend, Rachel who has a 14 month old. I went over to see just how things work with a child that young. She had things down to a science and showed me how she prepared her food. She's into more natural ingredients and so I think I'll have to give that a try once Chani gets here. She gave me tons of advice and opinions on different items that I found useful. Another great day.

Tomorrow we plan on digging up the pine straw in the front yard and replacing it with bark or rock or something else. We're going to put in some edging too and clean it up a bit. I hope to get rid of the Junipers and put in better plants.

Well, break time is over, back to the kitchen.

New Look

Check out my new look on my blog. Isn't it cool? My good friend/fellow blogger and fellow yorkie owner, Leda created it for me. I just love it and it looks so much better than the standard header. Now I need to work a little more to spruce up the rest of it. I also need to thank my wonderful husband, Matt for all his hard work and knowledge to get it installed and running correctly.

Thanks again Leda. It's perfect.

Lunch on Friday

On Friday, I had a great time having lunch with Deb, Ian and LiLi. But, before that, the three of us girls took a trip to Babies R Us and looked at the different options in high chairs. Having never had a child before and looking at the huge line of them can be quite intimidating. Trying to figure out how to do something, yet not even knowing what it is that you're wanting to do, makes me feel like a complete idiot. Who knew that you could move the seat to several positions, or that the foot rests actually have different positions, well, except for like every mother in the world. I had no clue about these things. Reading about them is one thing but actually pushing the right buttons and having it work was really something. I'm so glad that I took Deb, the wonderful mother that she is, up on her offer to test out the chairs with LiLi. She was such a good sport at sitting in the chairs. I decided that I do like the Fisher Price one, well, all except for the pattern on the seat but I will "try" to make a new one if that one really does bother me. So, on the registry it will stay. We nixed the Eddie Bauer one due to a number of reasons. I still have the Fisher Price booster chair and will use that one too.

Poor LiLi, though, wouldn't have anything to do with the carrier. I don't really blame her. I wouldn't want to be held in that thing either. But, I'll still take it to China with me and try to use it while there.

Deb also has a cool stroller that I really like too. I may end up getting that one instead of the zippy for about 1/2 the price.

I ended up buying about 4 outfits but feared the reaction of my better half. But, I took a deep breath and said, "Look at all I got, honey." His response, "It's not as bad as you usually do." - Whew, off the hook again :)

After lunch we went back to Deb's and watched the kids play in the bubble machine. Another thing to put on my list. It was really a lot of fun for the kids and for us, watching them.

Thank you again Deb for a wonderful and enlightening afternoon.

Our Georgia Waits Group Potluck

Last night we had our local adoptive group gather for a great potluck at Georgia and Jeff's We had a great turn out with so many there, even a few new ones. We had tons of great food, drinks and the weather was beautiful. All of Georgia and Jeff's flowers were so pretty with a secluded back yard. We all loved their porch! Seeing the girls, Joy, Ashley and Maisie all running around the back yard was a real treat for all of us waiting for our own little girls. The teens were busy with make up and I think all the adults had a great time. Again, a HUGE thank you to Georgia and Jeff for hosting this month. I'm really looking forward to the next one.

My Ergo & The Doctor

Wow, that was fast. It arrived on my doorstep within a day or two of them sending it. Don't ya just love fast service. I pulled it out and I love the color. It's much prettier in person that it is on their photos. They even sent a DVD that shows you how to change it from back to front and then with a little more adjustment, to the hip. I'll probably take back the Hip Hammock because who needs two? I can't wait to try it out.

Yesterday, I had lunch with Amy. A newly DTC Mom to be. Hopefully soon they will have their LID and be set for the long wait.

While I was close to Target, I had a couple returns to make. I had purchased some of those door locks with the strips and some just for knobs but neither of them seemed to work for me so I ended up taking them back. My knobs were just too far apart. I am still on a search for the magnetic ones that attach with sticky pads vs screws. I'll look for them at BRU tomorrow.

The final thing I did yesterday was to go visit another pediatrician. A few of the women in my Bunco group gave me his name so I called for a meet and greet visit. This one is much closer and I had heard so many good things about him and his wife. They gave me an appt time of 4:45.

We get there and find that it looks like an old house that was turned into an office. It's in a commercial area but it's crowded and not much parking. We go in and they had two tiny waiting rooms with about 5 chairs each. They asked if we were there for the prenatal visit. I told them no and explained why we were there. (Apparently, that's what they call the M&G.) They handed us a sheet of paper, explaining how the doctor just had brain surgery but was doing really well and had an excellent prognosis. They also gave us the book "Your Baby's First Year" (Later we were told that it wouldn't apply to us but we could keep it anyway. - Gee thanks!)

There were two sick kids ahead of us so we waited. I chatted with a mother who was there with her teenage girl. She said she really liked this doctor so I was really excited to have found them so close to us.

Once we were called, we were taken to an exam room where there were only two chairs so one of us had to stand the entire visit. His wife proceeds to tell us about his surgery. Okay. When the doctor gets there, he tells us a little bit about his surgery and then we ask our questions. One of those questions was if he would prescribe medications for us to take to China without him actually seeing her first. He said on adoption cases where it's not possible for him to examine her, then yes, he would but he made it a point that I couldn't call him up and say that she has strep throat and ask him to prescribe medication over the phone. He also made it a point that he wouldn't send a medication like morphine with me to China. What?? Hello?? Are you serious?? No doctor in their right mind would send morphine to a child he had never seen, or let me self diagnose something like strep over the phone. I mean, I thought you could NOT confirm it was strep without a throat culture. Yet he seemed to think that those were what we were asking of him. He was pretty condescending.

He told us that South America was a better place to adopt because they are healthier and have better medical records. He even went on to say that China's medical records are all lies and that he would start over with all the immunizations. The turn around time for the initial, referral paperwork viewing would be up to two DAYS.

He told us that he had been in practice with his wife and had been for so many years. She has some sort of degree but I can't remember what she is. He told us that she isn't a medical doctor but she is still called doctor, just like a dentist or a chiropractor. He also mentioned that everything has to go through him.

It's only him and his wife in the practice but when he has to go on vacation to Disneyland, he has a colleague come in and look after his patients. He also told us that there were many in the field and it basically boiled down to whether we liked them or not.

He then went on to brag about how he helps new doctors, just out of medical school, find real estate and set up their own practice for a modest fee.

As I was finished with my questions, I turned to Matt to see if he had any but then the doctor abruptedly ended the conversation and the appointment. Guess he had patients to see.

As we walked out, I asked Matt what he thought. Let's just say that he is happy with our first pediatrician, even if we have to drive 20 minutes to get to him. I'm really glad we didn't have to pay for this consult and I kept the book!

Ergo Carrier

Okay, I finally decided on the Ergo vs the Walking Rock Farm carrier. It was a tough decision but I finally did and ordered it. It should arrive within the next day or two. I'm gonna get our scuba weights and pop in there and walk around to see how it feels. I also bought the hip hammock and will try to practice with that too. Here's a photo of the one I chose.

Now I'm thinking about a highchair. hmmmm, decisions, decisions.

I like the reviews of this one.
FP Healthy Care High Chair

But like the looks of this one.
Eddie Bauer High Chair

I have this one but don't know if it will be sufficient.
FP Healthy Care Booster

Any opinions??

My First You Tube and Hawaii

Here is a conch eating a sea urchin that Matt filmed.

And the Manta Ray.

Here is also a six page report I did on the trip in case anyone is interested in reading all about what we did. Hawaii Report

Check out that smile! - UPDATE

Today I had to take Bindi to the vet to have some dental work done. Our pet sitter noticed him having a hard time eating and pawing at his face so I watched him and yep, he was doing all of that. He would even drop his food and was eating on one side so I took him to the vet Monday. Everything looked okay but she did want to do some dental work on him. Guess I'm not brushing his teeth as much as I should be. Occasionally I will but I need to work at it even more. They are going to polish them up above and below the gum line and see if there is any thing going on underneath. He has to be under anesthesia so it's a bit scary. They have tons of monitors on him and even a cardiologist on board from Florida working together. I feel he's in good hands. I'm a bit nervous but will have lunch with Lisa and Lisa today so that should help distract me from worrying about him.

I picked up Bindi at the vet and he did fine. He looks fine and there was nothing wrong. They cleaned his teeth and I have to give him some antibiotics. If he still shows the symptoms after that, they will bring him back in for an x-ray to see if he has a pocket under his tooth. This should help him though. I feel like they were a bit overzealous on his treatment but what can I do?

Back from Hawaii

Okay, so we're back home now to a freezing cold Atlanta. What happened to hotlanta? Burrrr.

Anyway, I'm working on a long report of everything we did. My goal is to shorten it with a summary and post a link to it if anyone is interested in all the details. All of that stuff will come within the next day or two, depending on when I find the time. Coming home from vacation sure is a lot of work and I still have a million things to do.

More will come.
